Have you wanted to see whale sharks up close and personal? We are not talking about one or two whale sharks, we mean 50-200 OR MORE at one time! Then read on. Want to rest on beautiful white sand beaches with crystal clear turquoise colored waters? Would you like to have both some beautiful reef dives as well as some “adventure” dives all in one trip. Then read on to learn more about our upcoming trip to Cancun/Playa del Carmen.
We begin with three nights in Playa Del Carmen where we will do some reef and cenote diving. Shop at the hundreds of stores along the pedestrian mall, relax at the beach, or take the ferry to Cozumel for a day. International laws prohibit donning diving gear when whale sharks are spotted from a boat but each year over 100,000 people snorkel with these magnificent beauties in the Cancun-to-Cozumel corridor during the Whale Shark Festival that runs from late May until mid-September. Whale sharks come to these waters to feed on the plankton that spawn during this time period. We will be staying at Adventura Mexicana, a Trip Advisor Top Rated All-Inclusive resort located a short two blocks from the beaches of Playa del Carmen and will be diving with the PADI 5-Star shop, ScubaPlaya. We plan on having three days of 2-tank dives in Playa but you can always schedule more dives if you are interested.
On the 18th, we will rise early and travel 40 miles north to Cancun where we will catch a ferry to the marvelous Isla Mujeres. We will stay at the Playa Medialuna hotel located on the beautiful Playa Norte (North Beach) of Isla Mujeres. We’ll do a day of reef dives or some fantastic wrecks (weather permitting) and 2 days of whale shark snorkeling. You can go snorkeling, diving, or rent a golf cart for the day and tour Isla Mujeres.
